December 14th 2007: ConRuhr Gala

   150 Friends and Alumni of the Ruhr area gathered together in New York to share memories of the Ruhr, at ConRuhr's 2nd Annual Friends and alumni gala. Andreas Pinkwart, NRW Minister for Innovation, Science, and Technology, joined the celebration with a keynote speech, as well as University of Bochum's Rector Weiler and Dick Brandt, President of the Global Village for Leaders, Lehigh University. December 2007: Agreement with Stevens Institute of Technology

 The Stevens Institute of Technology and University of Bochum agreed to a unique exchange cooperation for Doctoral students in the field of IT security. The agreement was signed by Bochum's Rector Weiler and Steven's President Raveche at ConRuhr's 2nd Annual Gala dinner, December 14th, New York City. Press at Heise.de

September 1, 2007: ConRuhr begins tour of 50 universities

Conruhr US university tour  With the beginning of the US fall semester, ConRuhr (teaming up with the DAAD and CDS)  began its tour of 50 US universities, to let talented US undergraduate, graduate, and post-doctoral students know about study & research opportunities available in the Ruhr Area.  The tour will run through January 2008.

August 13th, 2007: Ruhr meets Manhattan - Urban planning workshop

25 Duisburg-Essen geography students learned hands-on about complexities of city planning during an interactive workshop organized by the ConRuhr office in Manhattan. The students were able to meet with experts from New York City like Professor Gong from Hunter College and Eric Kober, Director of the New York City Department of Housing. The visit at ConRuhr was part of their 14-day tour through the North-east of the USA.
August 7th 2007: NRW Landtag in Manhattan

Top politicians from the NRW parliament visited ConRuhr’s facilities in New York City on August 7, 2007 where they participated in a Workshop on German-American Academic Cooperation. They gained insights into the work of international network and scholarship organizations and engaged in lively discussions particularly on how to achieve a perfect balance between competition and cooperation.

After the workshop, ConRuhr took the delegation to New York University to provide them with a best practice example of a US university. From Diane Yu, Chief of Staff and Deputy to the President, they learned first-hand about marketing strategies and effective university administration. Ewald Groth, head of the delegation, thanked ConRuhr: “We received very valuable insights and will take a lot of inspiring material for discussions home with us.”
April 2007: 29 American & Canadian Students win scholarships to study in Ruhr area

Through a highly-competitive selection process, twenty-nine ameican and canadian students were selected by the DAAD to complete internships with Ruhr area doctoral students, via the Research Internships in Science and Engineering (RISE) program. At ConRuhr's annual 'Meeting of the Minds' gathering, RISE Students met with officials at all three universities, did a gallery tour, and visited the Essen Philharmonic. March 2007: University Alliance Contract Signed



On March 12th 2007, the Universities of Bochum, Dortmund and Duisburg-Essen, signed new platform to strengthen research and study in the Ruhr area. The rectors of the universities, Prof. Dr. Weiler (Bochum), Prof. Dr. Becker (Dortmund) and Prof. Dr. Zechlin (Duisburg-Essen), signed the unique effort with the ambition to intensify the already strong cooperation among the schools and stress the unity of the Ruhr area as one single networked metropolis. Minister of Innovation, Science, Research and Technology, Prof. Dr. Pinkwart, who was also present at the signing, called the alliance a gain for researchers, students, the region and the entire state.

The University Alliance Metropolis Ruhr will give the Ruhr-universities one single voice to speak to the outside while they remain individual institutions. There will be a joint representation through a shared marketing concept and web presence. An increased amount of bi- and trilateral faculties will be established to combine existing infrastructure and offer students a greater variety of study opportunities. Activities and interests will be matched to secure a high standard of quality. Cooperation in research will for example increase funding by the German Research Foundation (DGF) and chances in the Federal Ministry’s Initiative for Excellence.

February 2007: Conference Co-organized by ConRuhr

Knowledge and Technology Transfers are complex processes with lasting effects on society.
